It has been a very busy month in the world of baby names since Nymbler’s last post. In addition to the Social Security Administration releasing the top names of 2010, along with the uproar an Israeli couple caused when they named their new baby girl Like, after the popular Facebook ‘Like’ button, as well as several celebrity births (Pink, David Schwimmer, and Jennifer Connelly to name a few), a new app, now available for download on your iPhone called Kick to Pick, allows unborn babies to pick their own name by literally showing "signs of enthusiasm" (a.k.a. kicking) from inside their mother’s womb. Talk about empowerment.
Yes, it’s true; parents will no longer have to agonize over choosing the perfect name for their baby. Now, for only $.99, you too can purchase this app and be on your way to a lesser-stressed pregnancy. You begin by selecting from one of the gender-specific lists, place the device over your baby bump, tap the start button and let your baby do the rest. When the app feels the baby kick, the generator will stop and reveal the name he or she has chosen. Is anyone else reminded of the popular 1980’s television game show ‘Press Your Luck’? I am not sure this is the best way to go about picking a name for your baby and from the reviews the app has gotten so far (only 2 out of 5 stars according the App Store as of June 8, 2011), I’d say that other people agree. Anyway, isn’t half the fun of having a baby in choosing his/her name?
