January's Most Popular Baby Names - 2012

Once again, Facebook is in the news for helping people choose a name for their baby. No, they did not name their baby Facebook or Like, instead, a couple from Crystal Lake, IL used a Facebook Poll to help them agree on a name.

Unable to decide between the names Madelyn, McKenna, Emily, and Addilyne, these parents took it to a public vote, which they administered on Facebook, and gave people from as far as New Zealand and Iceland the chance to weigh in on which name they preferred. Born on January 31 to Dave and Lindsey Meske, the baby girl was named Madelyn as the name took first place, garnering more than 1,300 votes.

It may seem a bit extreme to some, but choosing a baby name has been known to create a bit of tension for expecting parents in the past.

August's Most Popular Baby Names - 2011

Some of you have been watching True Blood. I can't say I blame you, or that I'm not guilty of it myself. This past season, arguably it's best thus far, has brought a lot of interesting characters and story lines to Bon Temps (Is it just me, or did this season fly by?). You may be wondering (with good reason) what a show about vampires, werewolves, wiccans, shapeshifters, and faeries has to do with our baby-naming site.
